ABOUT
THE TROPICANA CLASSIC
The Annual Tropicana Classic showcases a wide range of western events and is open to all western breeds, on average attracting a strong competition of over 400 horses and 200 competitors over the two weeks of competition.
Based in sunny Caboolture, Queensland, the Tropicana Classic is held over two weeks at the prestigious Queensland State Equestrian Centre. Attracting competitors Australia-wide, this event is not one to be missed, this year hosting the Ranch Horse Association of Australia’s Queensland Ranch State Show and the Australian Reined Cow Horse Association’s Hackamore Classic.
In 2025, the Tropicana Classic attracted 400 horses competing over 9 days of showing, with over $70,000 in prize money and prizes distributed across the Tropicana Classic “AA” Performance, the Nominated Sires Futurities, the ARCHA Mountain Horse Trading Hackamore Classic, the Johnson’s Natural Formula Versatility Ranch Show, and the Tropicana Classic Barrel Race.
THE WESTERN HORSE
The Western Horse and riding style originated in the USA. The style was adapted from the Spanish Conquistadors and mixed with the Native American style of riding, both of which focused on steering the horses with the legs and guiding them one-handed.
The western horse is usually an Appaloosa, Quarter Horse, Paint or Pinto. The Western Horse compete in a range of highly skilled events, with bloodlines being selected and carefully adapted to suit and excel in one or more events. These events include Cutting, Reining, Cow Horse, Western Performance, Halter, Ranch & Versatility Ranch, and rodeo events such as; Barrel Racing, Team Roping / Break Away Roping and Steer Wrestling.
With the introduction of the Ranch Versatility to Australia in 2016 and the increasing popularity of these events, the Australian Quarter Horse Association and Ranch Horse Association of Australia have worked on the inclusion of beginner and stock horse-friendly levels, to encourage more people to try Ranch.
